I recently sent a part drawing to a worker at Fireball. Our communication started over the phone but turned to mainly email. My goal was to find out how many of which fixtures I would need and receive the layout they do telling which fixtures to put in each location to build my part. After about a week, they sent me two part numbers. When I asked how many of each and if I was going to receive the layout info, they responded with “moving forward our engineers are requiring a CAD file”. Has anyone else been told they need to produce a CAD file in order to receive this type of help?

I would like to add that I’m a major fan of these products and have purchased several things over the years. I also do NOT want to express any discontent with the Support person assisting. They have helped me before and seem eager to do so. I’ve add the end of our written communication as well.

Post the drawing on the forum. We have a section just for fixture mapping. It’s helpful to have a cad model. The cad model speeds up the process. If it’s not provided our team has to draw the weldment to provide you with a fixture map.

Hello Jason, thank for the support! If this is too much because of some of my crazy measurements, I completely understand if the team wants to pass on this one. I’ve attached a picture of a similar part for context.

Wow I cant even believe they would do this. Why did you not think you could figure this out on your own? or did you just want a second opinion?

Am I reading this correctly your not a fan and yet they are giving you all this free help?

I have provided a two operation map for your part that will require at a minimum

x12 1x4 fence blocks

x1 40 piece shim kit

x6-8 clamps of your choice

Your picket spacing did not make sense with the geometry requirements you gave us (see picture below for correct layout.

 ![Screenshot 2026-06-29 093956](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex036/uploads/fireball/original/2X/7/760224f155587a8a321566b6a11955d745700a3e.png)

This why we prefer to have a CAD model because understanding this part as as an engineer that understands fabrication, I can follow this but there is a lot of context that can be missed in the format given.

That said, here is OP1

 ![Screenshot 2026-06-29 093516](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex036/uploads/fireball/original/2X/3/3f1cc89e34578ed54df42dcabcdb1fe8fa8bf6f7.png)

You set the perimeter of the part with fixtures and shims and you move your fixtures around the inside of the part to set your internal constraints and use less fixtures.

OP2

 ![Screenshot 2026-06-29 093939](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex036/uploads/fireball/original/2X/0/0da31a453f2559c3d16af92fb6f2c2b8a806a3ee.png)

This setup keeps the external constraints and adds constraints to add the flat bar to the back of the weldment.

Hope this helps.

Wyatt! Thank you so much for spending your time on this and helping. I really appreciate it sir!

I have no doubt that my drawings could be better and I’m looking to learn more about CAD soon.

Hillbilly, what is the part for? It looks like a brush guard for a tractor to me. If so, is absolute welding precision really needed? I may have missed what the part is being made for. Also, is it a one off, or is there to be multiples?

Hello Carletal, this not a brush guard. I make several of these and for many different types of units. They attach to an overhead guard on equipment. It’s important to me that the runners in the item align with the runners in the OHG. It looks more professional and “factory” when they do. The runners in this specific OHG are .80” thick and mine are .50” thick which caused some odd looking measurements since I’m centering mine in the middle of the existing ones.
