New Flap Disc Restoration Myth

Little update for you guys on the flap disc revival video!

Do you guys have a whole bunch of these that have a lot of material left on them, but just don’t cut very well? I tested a whole bunch of myths to try to rejuvenate your flap disc.

I’ve really perfected the technique to get rid of the glaze and make it cut like new. It’s gonna wipe off all of that fabric that’s covering the good media. So here’s a before test, everybody’s experienced it, a flap disc starts off, it cuts really good. And then it slowly starts to fall off, and the performance goes downhill very quickly. This disc still cuts, but just not very fast. I want it cutting like new.

I’m going to turn the grinder on, spinning it up, and kind of pumping the throttle. And I’m going to hit it with a flame and burn it nice and even.

And then when I think I get it hot enough, I’m going to come over here on this
corner and grind on the tubing.

Look at that! That was the trick, hitting it on the corner when it’s nice and hot. I still see some fabric there, but look how much more of the disc we exposed.

Now to test this revival flame trick, here we go! This is so much faster. You guys gotta try this trick!

Call it the Fireball Flame Revival Trick! Get that sucker nice and hot and hit it on the corner, wear your eye protection!

Okay, let’s do it one more time. As you can see here, this disc is glazed over. We got
a lot of fabric in the way. Let’s get her cutting like new again.

Okay, here’s a before test with the glazed disc.

Here’s the trick again. I’m going to flame it up, get it pretty hot. Then I’m going to hit it on the corner and knock all that stuff off.

Okay, now let’s test it with the Fireball flame revival trick!

That’s the new technique. You guys gotta try it out. You guys will love it!

Legend. This is so helpful. Can’t wait to try it out!

Of course, I just disposed of a bunch of old flap discs, many of which would/could have been good candidates for this treatment, as I had purchased a bunch of new ones. But hopefully this will keep me going a lot longer on the new batch!
