Last Monday was finally able to set the top on my 54x30 pro table. I constructed per directions and videos and printed instructions. I used the casters affixed to bottom with nut and tack welds per instructions. While adjusting to line up table using the blocks under the sides of the table one caster bent broke the weld and 600 lbs came crashing down. Luckly only two smashed fingers.
How can I safely attach the casters and still have them adjustable for leveling the table their it not enought threat to fit into the leg. thought about getting another set of casters and weld them on.
anyone else having issues or am I the lucky one that learned a valuable lesson with only a few bruised digits??/
I have never had much success with the central bolt style of caster (admittedly, the ones I have used were lighter duty than what FB sells with their kit). For my pro table, I used some heavy duty locking casters from Amazon that attach with 4 bolts each, bolted to 3/8" plate steel feet, drilled and tapped for the casters. I’ve had single bolt casters bend before and I am not doing that again. I have not needed to adjust them yet, but if I ever do, I will use shims.
I agree that a bolted on caster is the best and safest option to avoid injury and frustration. The central stem falls in line with a budget build but I think for needs to be said about dangers and instability of a 600 pound table only being held up by a few good tack welds. If this is the road you are going down need to have a nut on both sides of the plate. Good luck with your builds and maybe this will get back to Jason for a rework.
