Video Discussion: “I Built This From A 1972 Popular Mechanics Magazine Plan. Does It Work?”

I watched the video “I Built This From A 1972 Popular Mechanics Magazine Plan. Does It Work?”. The discussion YouTube says to come here, but I can’t find a discussion here on that video. How does this work???

Because this is a forum, technically you’ve started the discussion. I’ll adjust this post’s title and it can be discussed here.

I’m curious if the jet engine plans showed up

@Gavey unfortunately they never did :frowning: it seems some guy got a random $5

I remember the titles and headlines in PM in 1972. I’m STILL waiting on flying cars.

I want to try and build this, but I want the one I make to be able to exert a bit more force. I, however, have no idea on how the materials would change if instead of a 1.5 ton jack I used a 10 ton one, for example.

Would the structure be able to endure such forces? Would I need to use thicker, larger steel beams and tubing? If so, how can I calculate it?
