I just got a fireball 614 vise (used off marketplace) and very excited to have this to go with my dragon wagon table. this 614 will be replacing a wilton c3 vise I had on a home made stand. I am debating buying a fireball mounting plate that I could bolt through my plate that is already on my stand to mount the 614 to my existing stand.
It got me thinking, I know Jason makes the adjustable height stand leg for the purpose of making a stand for the 614 and 510, but with his prototype 208 vise as a modern interpretation of a German super vise if you will, what I think would be cool would be a modern interpretation of a cast rail road stand built specifically for a 614 with maybe a large mounting shelf and a solid mast upright and potentially a large circular base that you could bolt to the floor with 4-6 mounting holes and a triangular web for supporting the mounting shelf. I know this would be costly with the molds and casting and shipping, but for modern manufacturing centers it would be nice to just buy a vise and a stand for a larger vise like the 614 in one transaction compared making their own stand etc. And I think the market for a stand for a 614 would be larger compared to a tabletop or service truck mounted smaller unit like a 510. I myself would like a 510 for a table top vise and then the 614 for a large heavy stand to do larger projects.
I have been lucky enough to have an old Prentiss 58 on an original railroad stand and sold it to Andrew alexander and ironically enough he ended up mounting his fireball 614 to my old stand. My current stand from my wilton c3 is made from 3 side plates off a john deere forage harvester head and a 7" solid Round bar vertical post and a 1" water jet base plate that matches the profile of the swivel base of the c3.
