I’ve seen this question come up a lot both here and in the comments on our videos. Can I use Fireball Fixtures on a Buildpro Table? The Answer is Yes, absolutely. We also make ⅝” and 16mm fixtures. But there are a few things to consider when choosing a table system that’s different than the Fireball Table system.
BuildPro’s slot and riser fixtures measure 1-1/8" wide, whereas Fireball fixtures maintain a precise 2" width. This dimensional difference becomes significant when placing multiple fixtures side-by-side on a BuildPro table. The big gap from the buildpro fixture can interfere with accurate positioning. Particularly when critical features of a part align with those gaps. Fireball fixtures provide full surface coverage, allowing for a more continuous and reliable fixturing surface.
Another thing to consider is that the BuildPro system is not truly grid-aligned; its fixtures sit approximately 1/8" proud of the grid layout. This offset complicates accurate referencing, especially when attempting to align parts or incorporate shims. The Fireball fixture system is fully grid-based with precise 2" spacing, enabling consistent, predictable reference points across the entire table. Fixtures align perfectly to the hole pattern, simplifying layout and repeatability. Saving you time.
The Fireball Riser can also be used as a separate component to fixture from the option of removing the riser from the block. You can fixture the riser going up or sideways, while the Buildpro fixture is one solid piece, limiting the table user on how it can be used.
Fireball and Buildpro’s Risers also have a major difference in thickness. Buildpros’ thickness is undersized at around half an inch, which is strange. While the Fireball riser is 2 inches spot on. That means it can reference this block now, going from the front and the back in making other measurements.
Fireball and BuildPro both have risers have mounting holes. Which is great; however, both have different offsets for the mounting holes, which can be confusing and inaccurate. Fireball risers and mounting holes are engineered to when another component is connected, you can pull a measurement and have a precise number. This comes in handy for fixture stacking, shim placement, or material referencing.
For those currently using a BuildPro table, incorporating Fireball fixtures is not only possible, but can also significantly improve setup accuracy and ease of use. However, it’s important to understand the design differences between the two systems to avoid unexpected issues.
