Issue with combination square?

I just received a cast iron combination square that I ordered. After putting the blade in and admiring it for a few minutes I’ve noticed a problem. It’s made so the groove on the blade can be inserted from either side, but my square will only hold the blade from one side and not the other. When I tighten the thumb screw there is enough play in the slot for the blade, the screw inside the body of the square, and the finger on the screw that it walks its way out of the channel and down blade. This makes it so you can just pull the blade out from the front of the square.

If I flip the blade around, I can tighten it down and it holds but it’s not holding on by very much. I’m not sure how long it will want to hold for. Has anyone else experienced anything similar?

You have to tighten the set screws to make it a tight fit and to align the blade with the square.

The grip screw might need a slight bend to increase the engagement. Extra clearance is provided for different blade thickness. Nothing to worry about.
