Nice, how did you do the lettering? Is it machined plates or what?

Now thats the kind of things I love and wish would come back…when machinery and equipment had the most character you could cram in it. Did you have that cast, or are those machined parts with a little body filler before paint to blend in??

This was a idea from Neil Pask from Pask makes on YT, its uhmw ,I CNC’d the letters in reverse then used JB weld and clamped,a little body work ,the goal was to make it look cast.

Thank you,means a lot!

I appreciate it! I wanted a cast look, see the photos its uhmw with the letters cnc’d in reverse and JB weld and a lot of sanding. Ive done this technique in smaller projects. the JB doesn’t stick to the plastic, this bigger one I did buy a can of mold release. Started as a 3am sketch at work one night. Took forever last cnc for the HASS as th spindle bearings died right after. Glad people like it,was scared to show it.

I never would have guessed the column was 4 tubes married together, but the “form molding” of jb weld like that? Never would have thought of something like that. I am a plumber in real life when I’m not out in the hobby shop, but last winter I found out in the wild a water heater still in use, that was built in the late 30’s. Had cast badges on it, piles of chrome trim and a two-tone paint job. An era long gone lol. Thanks for posting it, I might have to steal that casting idea on something one day.

yea, was a fun project. The 4 tubes were from I couldnt find a piece of 8x8. Hope you try the lettering Pask Makes on YT used a cheap cutting board and carving chisels. I just had uhmw scrap from some prototyping I did.

That would be so much cooler( It is great already ) if the vise was painted the same color… Pask does some fascinating stuff.

I have a gallon of it ,its a RAL number from ww2 machinery. maybe once it gets beat up, i repaint my vises every 2 years if i have time for fun.
