Jason,
You have built a tremendous product and I am looking to buy a new table. I am like many others a bit reluctant on the three-quarter whole size as that is proprietary to fireball. You seem to have a thriving in business, but we all know that stuff happens in this Uncertainty economy. My question to you is had you considered going With the 22 mm size that Siegmund is currently offering? It would meet your in between size requirements by only.09 inches over Your current three-quarter size And the size would no longer be proprietary , It would be available elsewhere, just in case.
My question is one of just curiosity as I know your steadfast on your three-quarter size.
Again, thank you for your amazing offerings and tools and tables. Have a great day.
Hi Don, the problem with the 22mm hole is that it doesn’t allow for 1” spacing on the tooling. Also the material in between the holes at 1in is very thin with 22mm. This also causes a problem on the width of the fence blocks. They are currently 1 in thick. Keeping the tooling on a standard 1in thickness is very beneficial for fixture setups and it works well with nominal materials. The 3/4 hole wasn’t chosen to be a proprietary size, it was chosen by design and necessity.
Siegmunds 22 mm tooling isn’t as versatile as the 3/4 system. The 22 tooling is still on the 50mm spacing on the fixtures and 100 on the table. This is the same as the 28mm tooling. I honestly don’t understand what Siegmund is trying to do with the 22mm stuff. I personally think all the metric hole sizes are wacko. Nobody can tell me why they decided on the hole sizes.
There’s been rumors that other table companies are going to start making 3/4 hole tables. I guess they see the benefits like I described above.
