Here’s a cool trick if you have a set of Maximus clamps and need some serious clamping force. Use your porta power and thread the end of the adapter to attach to the foot of the arm.
I’ve been refurbishing a vice recently, and having it in hand i’ve of course thought of all sorts of ways to use it. Some, something similar to this marriage of Maximus clamps and hydraulic power.
Because my vice has the rear jaw moving, straddling a bar, it’s at least a little like the Maximus. I thought : "That sliding rear jaw could be pushed, rather than pulled by a screw.
And as side-note, the bores through castings could be re-purposed to hold tooling (place holders drawn green) for a light duty press effect.
Having the fixed jaw down would be better for smashing on. (post-vise effect) But there are also reasons that the other way up would be better. Like having the workpiece upper surface always set to the best working height.
I guess that if such a vice were mounted in the right location, like on a building’s upright beam, there’d be a place for the hydraulic ram’s attachment and it could be in the strong nose down orientation.
I like the idea, are going to build a prototype?
